The Conrail Historical Society is holding its first quarter 2024 membership meeting at Harris Tower and the nearby Harrisburg Power Directors Office, both maintained by the Harrisburg Chapter NRHS!
The schedule for the day will be as follows:
10:00 AM - Meet promptly at Harris Tower. Please don't be late! Please park at Harris Tower. There is plenty of parking on weekends.
10:05 AM - We will walk as a group from Harris Tower to the former PRR Power Director's Office. This impressive installation controlled the distribution of catenary power on the Main Line from Harrisburg to Frazer; on the Trenton Line to near Morrisville; and on the freight line and low grade line from Enola to Safe Harbor and Parkesburg. The PDO was used from the mid-1930s through the Penn Central era into Amtrak's tenure.
Noon - Pizza lunch provided by The CRHS in the Power Director's Office.
1:00 PM - Brief CRHS business meeting, followed by Alex Lang presenting a history of Conrail symbols. Alex has a wealth of knowledge certain to appeal to members interested in the operation of Conrail.
2:30 PM - Transfer to Harris Tower & Museum. Enjoy the remainder of the afternoon watching trains and controlling the computerized simulation of period-correct PRR schedules to operate the 113 original levers of the interlocking machine.
Please park at Harris Tower:
